COMMISSION A PORTRAIT
As your portrait painter, I will work with you to feel confident and your best. The process of commissioning a portrait is a careful understanding of who you are and transferring that into paint.
I have an academic knowledge of the historical and classical ideas of beauty, through a thesis focused on the objective criteria of beauty and five years working in a classical atelier. I use this knowledge throughout all my portraiture.
I enjoy instilling a sense of ease and familiarity with clients to ensure that the commission is a shared project.
Why commission a portrait?
A commissioned portrait is a very personal experience. Unlike a photograph, the time taken to curate the right pose and the intimate time shared between sitter and artist ensures the final piece is a true likeness. The physical resemblance is obvious but it is how a portrait can capture character and mood which really sets it apart.
The relationship that is created between the sitter and artist is intrinsic to showing the real you. Whether it is through the arch of a brow or the set of a smile, an oil or charcoal portrait is expressive. We will get to know each other well and that will come through in the finished work.
Therefore, although you are being captured in a moment in time, the expression of your personality will guarantee that the depiction of you is timeless.
Who can commission a portrait?
Portraiture is an ageless art.
I work with children through to those in various stages of retirement. Classically, it was seen as something for royalty or to mark a lifetime achievement, but you only have to flick through a recent edition of Vogue or look to the refurbishment of the National Portrait Gallery in London to see that portraiture continues to be something that captures imaginations.
